FAQs
Do I need to brush my dogs teeth?
If you want to avoid the classic combo of stinky breath + brown buildup + expensive dentals, brushing is the simplest win. Plaque forms every day; brushing breaks it up before it hardens into tartar. Dogtoof makes that habit easier because it’s made to be tasty and safe to swallow—so your dog fights you less and you actually keep doing it.
How is dog toothpaste different from human's?
Human toothpaste is made for people who can rinse and spit. Dogs can’t and they swallow it. Dog toothpaste is formulated to be swallowed in small amounts and to be palatable, so brushing becomes a routine instead of a wrestling match. Dogtoof is built around that reality.
Human toothpaste also contains agents which are toxic to dogs such as the artificial sweetener xylitol.
What's in the toothpaste?
Plain-English:
Dogtoof uses a mix of our own enzyme composition to clear plaque off surfaces, gentle polishing/cleaning ingredients + breath-support ingredients, designed for daily use.
it’s safe to swallow, and it’s made to help lift plaque and keep breath fresher when used consistently.
For the nerds:
Dogtoof's plaque destroying enzymes Glycerin, Water, Hydrated Silica, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Peanut oil, Arginine, Zinc Oxide, Cellulose Gum, Cl 77891, Poloxamer 407, Zinc Citrate, Tetrasodium Pyrophosphate, Xanthan Gum, Benzyl Alcohol, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium.
How does the toothpaste work?
Mechanically:
Brushing wipes plaque off.
Chemically:
Ingredients can reduce bacterial load / slow plaque mineralising
How do I brush my dog's teeth?
- Start with finger + tiny smear, let them lick.
- Graduate to finger brush/soft brush.
- Focus on outer surfaces of upper teeth (where tartar builds).
- 30–60 seconds is fine to start; consistency beats perfection.
How is Dogtoof Paste different from competitors?
- Designed by Aussie vets
- No nasty chemicals toxic to dogs
- Irresistible flavour that makes brushing easy
- Dogtoof trademark formula inspired by real science
How long will a tube last for?
Rule of thumb: pea-sized amount per session (often less for small dogs). How long it lasts depends on dog size + how often you brush.
But each tube should last you 3 months on average
Will this help with my dog's stinky breath?
If your dog’s breath is “dog mouth” from plaque and gum irritation, brushing + Dogtoof usually improves it fast often within 1-2 weeks of consistent use. If the smell is nuclear or sudden, that’s a vet check.
How often should I brush my dog's teeth?
Best: daily. Real-life: aim for most days. Consistency beats intensity.
Dogtoof is made for daily use so you can keep the habit.
Can't I Just Give My Dog Bones?
Chewing on hard objects like bones can actually cause chips in your dogs teeth (then you’re paying for extractions/root canals), leading to nasty bacterial infections 🦠. If you want a low-risk routine that you can do daily, brushing is the safer foundation
We believe in the power of consistent brushing, backed by clinical evidence that proves it to be far more effective than chewable alternatives.
Can't I just use dental chews?
Chews help some dogs, some of the time. Brushing helps most dogs, most of the time because it’s direct plaque removal. Use chews as a bonus. Use Dogtoof + brushing as the baseline.
Can this reverse my dog's dental disease?
Dogtoof + brushing can improve early gum inflammation and slow new buildup. If there’s already heavy tartar or advanced disease, you’ll still need a proper dental clean—but brushing afterwards is how you stop it coming straight back.
Isn't it better if I just take my dog for a scale and clean?
A scale and clean is a reset. Dogtoof is what helps you keep the reset. Without home care, plaque returns quickly and you’re back in the same loop.
